Yuri Mania 14: Gift from Yaku - Coloured

Art by Yakuri Moe
Colour by Lightning Sabre

After a Thursday evening filled with undoing, changing colour, making layers and changing brush sizes, I finally finished colouring this art work drawn by Yaku! I could have done it the way I did the last artwork I coloured, but this one is special since it was especially done for me and these are two of my favourite anime characters! I really think I could do more, but I'm not that good enough in colouring yet... I can always call it a work-in-progress and of course am appreciative of any constructive criticism and advice. ^^

Previously seen as a rough sketch before in this blog. I'm really glad when Yaku inked the lines to make it sharp for me so it was easier to colour... but umm... did she have to use that nickname? -3-

Anyhoot... colour schemes... I knew Rei has to have a pale skin, but I know Saber is quite pale as well. Saber has some warmer colour in her than Rei. The trademark hair colour has to fit as well, but I opted not to even look at samples of their hair colour since I know them by heart. Plus Rei so many shades of blue in other fanarts anyway. So I went with my own choosing. The red eyes for Rei was easy, but I wasn't sure what shade of green Saber's eyes should be. I know this ain't perfect, but I can always go back and change it later, especially if I improve.

Hmm looking at this again, I think I should've made Saber's ribbons darker... I also wanted to use a little bit of trademark colours in the schemes. Saber's swimsuit has been white for many other art, so I kept it that way. I can always add stripes to it once I get used to colouring curves ^^; Rei's swimsuit colours are based on the Eva unit 00, thus it's a yellow suit with gray trim. I would've prefered the blue Unit 00, but I don't want to conflict with Saber's too much. So as for Saber, I made the float tube behind her to be the trademark silver and blue armor scheme. That float was one of the last things I coloured since I have no idea how to do it... Thankfully I came across Yamada's posts on DC.com that had a float in it. ^^

One of the things I wanted to improve was also shading. I didn't do any shading on the bunnygirl Mikuru... so I wanted to try it out. I saw a little bit of samples from Gelbooru.com and also looked at RadiantDreamer's colouring tutorial. I think he uses a tablet though, so he has better results. The above art is done without shading. Not too much difference since I've only begun doing it this way. Hopefully I'll improve again. Good thing this is all in the computer so it can always be revised. I really wish I can draw too because I want to add a swimming pool in the background... I can always Photoshop one in, but that's cheating >_< I made multiple layers and also learned how to make layer set in Photoshop. So convenient with that layer set now. I made sure that every colour has different layers this time around, so now I can always change the colour of the float and Saber's & Rei's swimsuit. Anyone got a better colour scheme? I'd love to add a logo on the float, but I was too tired to think of one and how to do it... Probably the design on Saber's armor.

And finally I was messing around with the colour scheme again today before I posted this and did an ecchi omake. Since Yaku called me "Ecchi-Man" then I might as well make it ecchi, lol. A thousand pardons for messing with your lines, Yaku ^^;;;

NSFW NOSEBLEED ALERT!!

Ehehe. Anyway... I started this around 4 PM on Thursday, but with many distractions, I didn't really finish til 3 AM... So adding with the stuff I did today, I'd say about 9 hours? Yikes! Did I really do it that long?? 0.o

Coincidence: A Unique Day Addendum

Hmm... I've been having a lot of these addendum lately. Anyhow something happened on that unique day that I had last week that I did not put on record. I was actually looking at cell phone accessories for my new mobile while I was in Richmond Centre last week. I was only half-interested in the car charger at this cell phone accessories kiosk and was talking to the person who worked there. The price was ok, but I wasn't sure if I really need it. I didn't think much on this occurence at the time.

My work days started and was having some really bad time at work. It's finally over thankfully. When I came back home, my parents had a guest who is an Indonesian. We introduced ourselves and apparently had the same first name and then talked a little bit. Unfortunately I was too tired and had to lie down on my bed. Somehow he looked familiar... Facebook? Photos? After he left, I told my mom that he looked familiar. It wasn't until she mentioned that he works at a cell phone store that I started to connect the dots... It's the same employee who I was talking too about the car charger last Thursday XD

Pardon the silly life story, but I'd like to keep some stories remembered. And I always love coincedences (if they exist). It was quite a unique day indeed!

Image from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya DVD Volume 2, Disc 2.

By the way... Did anyone think back to this above scene in the first season of Haruhi Suzumiya when (or if) you watched Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody? After I first read Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody, I thought about this scene and I was blown away! I was in awe at the amount of planning in advance. Safe to say that this is my favourite Haruhi Suzumiya story. ^^

A Unique Day

"Unique" has always been I strive for when I post something on my blog. I try to avoid anything that's popular at the time because a lot of people will be posting about them already, so I want to do something different. This post is about a day in my life, but it turned out to be one of the most unique days I've had.

I woke up early thinking I would head out to Richmond early to meet with Chun, but instead I got caught up with browsing the internet... The reason was I was going to buy Chun's art of Taiga eating a donut. I wanted to get it during Anime Evolution last month, but didn't manage to get one there. Eventually I managed to head out around 2 PM, but first I had to get some money. On the way to the mall where Chun worked a gust of wind blew my cap. That was rare of me to lose my hat while it's on my head... A bad omen? Turned out it's not :)

I finally bought her art as shown above. If you like the art as well do check out Chun's site and maybe she can hook you up as well ^^ Ummm... don't mind the tissue box in that picture, I just need it to prop it up on the slippery surface >.>

Along with the art she also attached an envelope that has a souvenir from Japan inside:
Yup! Danny's business card! Oh great, now I feel like making my own business card XD

Speaking of Danny... What made today unique was that I was able to talk to Danny Choo on the phone! It was quite a surreal experience. I instantly recognized that voice that I've heard from the videos of himself that he's posted. I was almost babbling at the beginning. Once I regained some composure I managed to talk almost normally with him, maybe even joking around a little bit. We talked about a lot of things. Most of all he asked me where I see myself next year. I could never answer that kind of question unfortunately and I told him that... I don't remember exactly what he said (I have a bad memory ^^;), but it was along the lines of finding a goal and follow through, and how it gives you motivation to get there. I don't know what I'll be doing next year, but I know for sure that I want to go to Japan in 2 years time. Only visiting, but it is something I want to do for the longest time. Again, I'm not confident at most times, but he tells me to do it "as soon as possible" so that I can focus on that goal. Man, he's one good motivational speaker! I am feeling a little bit more confident and perhaps even wanting to make more goals so I can be more motivated.

Aside from my rant above of what happened, we also talked about figure.fm and dannychoo.com in general. About what I can do with figure.fm. Oh and since I do have that infamous room we just had to talk about that. I am planning to sell some things, but right now I am just not able to get any of those things I want to sell until I have some spare room to walk around in ^^; And yeah, that's what I talked to him about. He understands the collectors mentality, but also the fact that some of stuff still lying around in their original plastic bags doesn't make them enjoyable. Hmm... perhaps he has a reason why he was talking to me about my room and figure.fm ^_^

It was still early morning in Japan, so he had a lot of things to do before the day started. It was not a short call at all, so it was quite satisfying to actually talk to him like that. Lastly we talked about his trip to Canada. For now Toronto is his main destination, but Vancouver is not out of the question ;)

Back to my visit to Chun... I was only there briefly after buying the Taiga art since the store where she was working had a sudden rush of customers/browsers. But at that short time she noticed my new LG Rumor phone briefly. And she knew it was new even though she did only see my old phone briefly at Anime Evolution ^^; I guess the keyboard gave it away, but still... Good eye, Chun ^^
So here is my phone... not so unique really, but hey, I'm the only one in my family to have one to have a phone with the slide out keyboard :P
I've been wanting a phone that slides around. Me no like flip phones. I don't like that clapping noise when the phone closes... I'm really liking this slide out keyboard phone, but I haven't figured out how to do a soft enter to go to the next line of text yet ^^; Anyone know how to do it on an LG Rumor?

One thing that surprised me about this phone was that it has a pretty decent camera even though it's only 1.3 megapixels! Chun requested a picture of a food I was planning to get in Richmond, but I didn't bring a camera, lol. So I told her I'd take it on my phone. I was wary about camera phones because my last one, Nokia 6275i, had 2.0 megapixels camera on it but it never turn out that well... But you can see the results below and see what you think of the quality.

Oh I actually got lost on the way to my next destination, but instead I found the Richmond Olympic Oval! It was so funny because I never know or find out where it is, but here it is showing up right before my eyes XD

I went to park underground, pretty much empty. A lot of construction machines are still around the building doing finishing touches before the 2010 Winter Olympic. I mean it's done, but I guess there are some work that needs to be done outside.

This is the first shot right as I exit the door from the parking lot. Some kind of creek? No idea what that wooden fence thing is for... I love how the grass is sticking out of the water like that. Kinda like a rice field.

Here is the logo of the building. I took a picture of the trucks outside too because it had all sorts of 2010 Olympic stuff on the side ^^;

Here's a winding path from the top of the creek to the parking entrance below...

... but why go the winding path when there's a stone path that you can climb over here? Much shorter time ^^

A sign near that "rice field" I've mentioned. So we're still called a Crown Colony, eh?

Oh yea?? How am I supposed to pay when there aren't any numbers on the stalls? :P Ah well they haven't really started this pay system I think. It was pretty much an empty parking lot...

And now for lunch...

Today I'm having a bakudanyaki. I found out about this through ZeroAquaduct's blog and his post on DannyChoo.com. The above picture shows a better representation of what it is. It basically looks like a large takoyaki. There are more inside it though. It was almost like a ball-shaped okonomiyaki.

They always seem to serve it in these Chinese takeout containers though, so it's hard to see the shape, but it is ball-shaped. This is the original flavour, but they also have other ones like chili, pizza and others. I have to try those later and see how they compare.

You know that kids' joke where they ask you if "you wanna seafood" and then open their mouth so you can see the food being chewed? Well this shot is pretty much similar to that XD This is just to show you what the insides are. Lots of red and green and white. The pinkish red is ginger. A bit too much in there for my liking, but I didn't find it too strong.

For my drink I bought this blueberry flavoured green tea. Kinda sour, but I like my blueberry flavoured stuff ^^ Oh and anyone see anything you might recognize in this picture? ^_~

This is the side of the container. They even have the website on here! Visit them to see where they are located and what's on the menu. The website have all these bomb themes going, that's because "bakudan" means "bomb" or "explosion". Pretty appropriate since it's like a blown up takoyaki XD

Hehe I loves puns ^^ I'll be visiting them again, gonna have to try some of the other flavours. Going there is a bit tricky though since I got lost the first time, lol. But if you are in Vancouver area or visiting then it's a good food stall to visit. I was pretty satisfied with just one even though I didn't eat anything before this.

Oh and since I'm a figure maniac I can't help but ask the owner(?) to take a picture of the figure he has in the front counter. Kyuuto meido with a huge takoyaki or should I say bakudanyaki? ^^

To end the day I visited Richmond Centre to browse around. Didn't see much. I wanted a dessert, but I wanted ice cream that was not Dairy Queen... failure. Until I saw this Big Orange bubble tea stand in the mall. I browsed through their menu and got the above murky concoction. It's chocolate and mint bubble tea! YUM! I'm always a sucker for unique flavours like this. Oh there's that word again, "unique" ^^ Unfortunately they didn't serve it as cold as I'd hoped, but the mint made it quite refreshing. Instead of the pearls I opted for the coconut jelly. I like that stuff better than the pearls anyway.

Ah what a nice unique day today! I guess there are some interesting bits happening in the everyday mundane life that I'm living after all ^_^

Ita-Garage

In our Otakudom, we have something called itasha, which is a car that's been decorated with pictures of (mostly) anime characters or any other fictional characters. It's caught on big time in Japan. In car racing video games there's even an option to add pictures on your fictional car to make it an itasha. And I believe it was Ace Combat that allows to add pictures to your plane (please correct me if I'm wrong). So what's next? Let's make an ita-garage as well where we can keep our itasha safe!!

I found this through an e-mail forward from my dad. In the email it describes who made this and how much it costs:

A German firm called Style Your Garage creates posters for garage doors that make it look as if your garage is where the action is. Made for the up-and-over garage doors common in Europe , they mount with velcro and can be adapted to fit sectional garage doors. If you've got a two-car garage, no worries they can make posters that will span both doors. Prices range from €199 to €399 for the double-door and the company can also turn a photo of yours into a garage poster, but you'll want to be careful with this, not everything can be blown up to 6.5 feet without looking weird!!.
The email also provided with more samples of what else you can put in there. As for myself, I'd love to put a picture of a Gundam or the Voltes V vehicles or any other anime mechs lying down inside my garage. XD

I wonder who's brave enough to put this up on their garage door ^^;

It's Jetfire! The decrepit old Transformer from Revenge of the Fallen... love the jet, hate the robot design. I mean c'mon! It's the SR-71 Blackbird, the X-Men's plane and they gave it a beard and a cane in the movie?? Sheesh!

Aldora of Queen's Blade

MegaHouse Queen's Blade EX 1/8 Aldora
(2P Colour Ver.)

Well if I haven't offended anyone yet, I might just offend someone with this figure, lol. I don't know why I was so attracted to this figure of Aldora... I mean she's got that... thingy... there. At least that's what people think, but I thought it was unique and everything about her is just so great looking.

WARNING: This review include images not appropriate for children under 18 years old. Nor is it safe for viewing at work. If you are easily offended by such images then turn back now.

I've decided to get the 2P colour because the red version doesn't seem to match the figure. I did get the Queen's Blade book but I didn't mind the red in that book. Art and figure are different medium after all. I'll post about the book soon to follow up this figure.

I'm also glad she's actually in the Queen's Blade anime, even though she's mostly in cameo (from what I've seen so far). She's the current Queen in the storyline. Perhaps if not the first season then maybe in the second season in November. Looking at this figure I thought Rie Kugimiya could do her voice, but she's already the voice of Melona.

This is the packaging out of the box... I HAD to take a picture of this. This is probably the only inner plastic packaging of a female figure with an extra protective bubble on her crotch. I'm glad for that extra protection. I could somehow see how my last sentence can be misinterpreted...

She comes with an extra plastic packaging with an extra eyepatch thing, another head/face, extra arm and her "coattails". I forgotten to put on this coattail in the first picture... This coattail is made out of materials different than the rest of the figure. It almost feels like the same material they make plastic spoons/forks out of. Really odd.

By the way, her thingy is actually a moveable object. You can pose it anyway you want... Each sections is connected by a ball peg... I am not kidding you and yes, it does sound strange that you can move this thingy around!

The usual thing with figures is the hair seams. The hair seams are quite obvious because it looks like she's got so many hair styles in her head here. Not too mention you have to remove her front bangs to put on the extra face.

Her left hand is tied at her back apparently. She looks like she's well covered from the back, eh?

Umm... this pose was shown in the original promotion... I'm just imitating it...

The patch is removable and you can see her demonic right eye. The eye covering almost reminds me of Rider. Same with her hair, kinda.

Here she is with the opened eye patch. It's actually transparent plastic. So you can see through it if you shine a light on it. She's giving you the evil eye!

Here she is with her secondary face, which apparently makes her stare downwards when you put the head in the peg. What's she staring at, I wonder?

Here's that pose again... Anyone care to sit down on... with her?

Uhhh... I accidentally brushed my hand in front of her a bit too hard and it fell... So instead of panicking and thought I broke it (I did that anyway), I took a picture of it so you can see how IT moves.
Return of the mirror base! I'll explain later why I used the mirror base.

WARNING: The following pictures contain nudity when you click on them. I've censored them in the thumbnail just so I don't create too much fuss with Blogger.com. Do not click on them if you are under age or easily offended with such materials. And that includes the last two pictures.

As usual MegaHouse does not include an instruction how to cast her clothes off. A pet peeve Blowfish and I and a few other people have with their castoff figures. Thankfully her cast-off options aren't as bad. After the first time I figured out to remove only her left shoulder pad and not the whole arm. The straps on her top actually connects to this shoulder pad.

Her body looks very good, doesn't it? I really like her skin tone and her curves on her back and backside. The other head doesn't really allow her to show her back.

Her left hand still look Flike it's tied. I really like this angle, especially her hair and naked back.

Here's the first of the censored pictures. I've put it on an image hosting that allows this sort of thing. Click on it to see the uncensored picture. The curves seem to be more emphasized without her clothes, if you want to call what she had on "clothes".

Now that her top is off... where do you want to sit?

Yep here she is shocked that her thingy drooped... It's pointing straight down. Perhaps she would like to keep that infamous blue pill on her?

Here are all the pieces of her including the base. I noticed the base reflected a little... but not enough and this is a really boring base.

Thus the mirror base returns... It works wonder for this figure ^^;

I've always like this angle where you can't see her face except the one on the mirror base.

And uhh... I had this silly idea I wanted to do with another figure. I wasn't sure what figure I could use for a yuri scene at first, but I think you'll agree that this figure was the best choice (at least from what I have).

Surprise sex? Their faces are appropriate for it. ^^;

Not to worry... She's nowhere near Shigure's crotch. Not yet at least...

I have a feeling I may be one of the only bloggers to review this figure... Oh well. I hope that gives you some idea what Aldora is about and perhaps even tempt you to get one. It's still in stock at Hobby Search XD

Anime Evolution 2009 Addendum

OMG, he took a shot of Sheryl Nome from Macross Frontier! I wanted a front view of her!

Anyway... My friend, Ed, came along with me to the Vancouver anime convention this year. It was his first time at an anime convention, and now he's quite a bit interested in the culture! Score one for otakudom! LoL, just kidding. I'll try and convert him slowly. He does have the same name as an anime character XD

I was actually surprised when I saw him because he had a Canon DSLR with him on Saturday and damn does it take good pictures! He wasn't the only one walking around with it... it's just the first time I've seen him with it ^_^ So with that he sent me what he shot. Lots of cosplays I missed the first time >_< Anime Evolution 2009 post.

I spy a Rabi-en-Rose

It'sa me! Luigi!

I think this is the picture that I took when I was trying out his (really heavy) camera (because of the extra zoom lens attached). Not sure who the character with the Tokunaga bag is...
He also got a picture of Kuja from Final Fantasy IX, from a different angle.

He, there's that unknown character again... Crowd shot!

A tad blurry, but damn the camera's good!

Sailor Jupiter

Headless ninja girl from Tales of Symphonia XD and Magician Girl from Phoenix Wright?

Mmm... somebody from Bleach and ...?

Final Fantasy X-2's Rikku doing something to that eagle...

Another Legend of Zelda group shot, close up this time.

When I go to conventions I don't take cosplays of Naruto or Bleach :P

Crimson Viper sighted!

Another pic of Kuja! It is a great costume.

Two of Gwendolyn from Odin Sphere with different angles

And this is the picture he took for me because the one I took from my point and shoot was blurry! I'm a sucker for Ayanami Rei ^_^

He might send me some more pictures from Sunday, but he didn't use his DSLR that day... He says he might be interested in going again for next year, so perhaps more pictures from him too :D For now I'll try to lend him some anime DVDs so he can be more knowledgeable on these characters ^_^
